Imagine walking into a bakery and smelling freshly baked bread that just finished cooking in the oven. You proceed to the counter and order a cookie, and when you receive it, you take a bite of the warm and gooey dessert as the chocolate melts in your mouth. Doesn’t that make you want to run out to a bakery and experience that for yourself? If you’re in the Sheboygan, Wisconsin, area, you can do just that at these three bakeries.

City Bakery LLC
Locally owned and operated since 1939, City Bakery LLC prides itself on baking hearth-baked hard rolls and rye bread for patrons and restaurants. Its hard rolls are made via the sponge and dough method, which involves mixing flour, water, and yeast and allowing the dough to ferment for four hours. From there, the dough goes back to the mixer and the rest of the ingredients are added. The rolls are then creased, proofed, and placed into the brick hearth oven for baking.
In addition to its bread, the bakery serves mouthwatering pastries, including Danish pastries, donuts, cherry turnovers, and authentic Fleishbrok, which are German meat turnovers. You can also enjoy traditional desserts, such as sugar cookies, brownies, fritters, and elephant ears. The bakery, located on Michigan Avenue, is open daily except for Sunday.

Johnston’s Bakery
A family-owned and operated bakery on Superior Avenue, Johnston’s Bakery was originally known as L.S.P. Bakery when it opened its doors in 1950. The bakery moved to its current location on Superior Avenue just seven years later. Today, the bakery and frozen dough manufacturer produces a variety of baked goods.
Over the years, the bakery has earned numerous accolades, including 12 straight years as Sheboygan Press’ Reader’s Choice Award for Best Bakery. Stop into the cafe and savor a delicious hot or cold beverage along with a freshly baked glazed donut or buttery croissant. You can also order fresh-baked cakes available in a variety of sizes. It also prepares Sheboygan-style hard rolls that you can use for your next sandwich. Keep in mind that it’s closed on Sundays.

Sweet P’s Cakes and Confections
Located on North 13th Street, Sweet P’s Cakes and Confections prepares wedding and event cakes as well as cookies entirely from scratch. Its recipes consist of fresh Wisconsin butter, farm-fresh eggs, 100% pure vanilla, and the highest in quality chocolate and cream cheese. None of its items are ever frozen; they’re baked fresh for every customer. The cakes feature the bakery’s signature buttercream frosting, which is incredibly soft and creamy.
If you prefer your cake to have a filling, the bakery provides that at no additional cost. Also, if you want your wedding cake to be adorned in flowers, the bakery will pick up the flowers from your florist and arrange them on the cake.
These three Sheboygan bakeries will have your mouth watering the minute you enter the door. Make sure you visit these stops to get your fill of fresh, made-from-scratch bread, cookies, cakes, and other delicious pastries.
